Insulating the bearing carriers on verticle pumps is proving to be a cost effective solution. We are all certainly aware of the problems of motor reliability since the introduction of variable frequency drives. Verticle pump motors are not excused from the problems of shaft currents induced by VFDs. There are a number of solutions to the issue but we believe that coating the bearing carrier along with proper shaft grounding to be the least expensive option.
